KCA (Kansas Counseling Association) is a branch of the American Counseling Association (ACA).  It is a non-profit professional association.  It serves its members to advance the field of counseling in the broad areas of career, education, and mental health.  KCA acts as an umbrella organization for six Regions within Kansas and nine Divisions for all areas of counseling within the state of Kansas. 

It is imperative more than ever that we work together to support the mental health of all Kansans.  To do this, we must work together and advocate for all the needs of our state.

Amanda Petrik-Gardner, LCPC, LPC, LIMHP specializes in the treatment of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Anxiety Disorders, and Body-Focused Repetitive Behaviors. Amanda is currently licensed in the states of  Kansas, Colorado, Nebraska, Missouri, Michigan, Maine, and Arizona, and is an approved out-of-state Telehealth provider for Florida. Amanda is a board approved supervisor for professional counselors in the states of Kansas and Missouri. She is currently on the board of OCD Kansas, an affiliate of the IOCDF (International OCD Foundation) and is currently the treasurer of her local Parent Teacher Organization. Amanda is a past president-elect, president and advisor of the Kansas Association for Play Therapy, an affiliate of the Association for Play Therapy. Amanda is currently a member of the Kansas Counseling Association, International OCD Foundation, TLC for BFRBs, and Anxiety and Depression Association of America, and is a national speaker on OCD and BFRBs.


Alex Becnel, PhD, LCPC, NCC is an Assistant Professor in the counseling programs at Kansas State University. Dr. Becnel is passionate about the counseling profession, especially in the areas of suicide assessment and counselor leadership. He has published several peer-reviewed articles and presented more than 20 programs at counseling conferences over the past four years on those topics. Dr. Becnel was selected as a 2021-2022 Emerging Leader by the North Central Association for Counselor Educators and Supervisors (NCACES), and provides service to NCACES as a member of the Bylaws Committee. Additionally, he is an active member in national counseling organizations such as ACA, ASCA, ACES, and Chi Sigma Iota as well as several local professional organizations such as KCA, KSCA, KACES, and the Kansas Suicide Prevention Coalition. Dr. Becnel has experience both as a school counselor and as a clinical counselor, specializing in the treatment of adolescents and their families.
